The free health service is in serious peril, warned education secretary of the Frontline Socialist Party (FSP) Pubudu Jayagoda.
Holding parliamentary debates is meaningless against the minister who should have been responsible for eliminating the medicines mafia, he said at a media briefing.
A people’s force should be created against such crimes, said Jayagoda.
He said revelations have been made and struggles waged to no avail against the so-called emergency medicines purchases and the import of low-quality medicines.
Politicians, top state officials and rich companies involved in this racket should be defeated and punished, he stressed.
After the wrongdoings were pointed out, the health minister merely pretended to correct them, while the rackets continue unabated, said Jayagoda.
