SriLankan Airlines has blamed its repeated flight delays on an inadequate fleet of aircraft.

A spokesman for the national carrier said they only had 20 aircraft in operation, whereas the daily requirement is 24.

Further, two aircraft are undergoing maintenance, while two more remain grounded pending the arrival of new engines from France, he said.

The spokesman also cited a shortage of staff, with around 30 engineering staff having left the airline for foreign airlines.Recently, SriLankan flights from Katunayake to Lahore, Chennai and Dhaka got delayed.
