The then prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe was made to sit outside for 25 minutes when he went to the Defence Ministry to attend the National Security Council meeting after the Easter Sunday attacks, said UNP MP Wajira Abeywardena.

Abeywardena told parliament today (22) that he accompanied Wickremesinghe to the ministry and witnessed how he acted with utmost patience.

The MP said that he would have entered the meeting and sat down without any regard.

A member of the NSC, after coming to know that the PM was there, had told him to wait outside for the time being, said MP Abeywardena.

Present were the commanders of the armed forces, IGP, defence secretary and other officials, but no politician was seen there.

Although the NSC meeting was closed for him, the PM summoned all officials to his office later and took measures to arrest the suicide terrorists by 5.00 or 6.00 pm, forcing the remaining ones to explode themselves, said the MP.

He also told the adjournment debate on the Easter Sunday attacks that the entire nation would be ruined if they got divided and attacked each other.
