Incumbent Ranil Wickremesinghe will not contest the next presidential polls as he is without any public support and was appointed to the position on the strength of the SLPP MPs, said SJB MP S.M. Marikkar.
Wickremesinghe lost his premiership, the UNP its government and the party got divided all because of the Easter Sunday terror attacks, he said, and urged the president to go for an international investigation into the 2019 bombings.
Speaking to the media yesterday (15), Marikkar said it was pointless to appoint a parliamentary select committee as suggested by the president.
Appointing fake commissions and select committees is meaningless as MPs are without any knowledge about the subject matter, said the SJB MP, adding that it should be investigated by experienced professionals.
