With the health sector in six forms of crises, the Pivithuru Hela Urumaya will support the no-confidence motion moved against the subject minister, said leader of the party Udaya Gammanpila.
Speaking to the media today (04), Gammanpila said they would do so to convey to the government the repression, dejection, disappointment and anger of the public due to these six crises.
A patient getting hospitalized has two options today – either to go back home or to go on his final journey.
Those who will believe in the first will vote against Keheliya Rambukwella, while those who want patients to die will not do so, said Gammanpila.
The health sector is faced with an acute shortage of medicines, even the available ones are unaffordable, state hospitals provide substandard medicines and correct diagnoses cannot be made due to malfunctioning medical equipment at hospitals, he noted.
Also, the Health Ministry’s human resources management is immensely questionable with trade unions on regular strikes or protests, while there is no plan to prevent brain drain of health professionals, said the MP.
Finally, the health sector is faced with corruption of unbearable proportions at all levels, with commissions changing hands at every procurement, he added.
Challenge to Tamil MP
Speaking further, Gammanpila challenged Tamil MP Gajendra Kumar Ponnambalam for a public or television debate over his refusal to accept Buddhist places of worships in the north and the east.
Ponnambalam cannot stand the sight of a Buddhist site, go there with a few others and stage protests, he charged.
Gammanpila said he would side with him and protest if he proves that Boralukanda Rajamaha Vihara is built on a previously Hindu kovil site.
