The UNP held a training workshop for its activists at Sirikotha yesterday (31) on how to raise awareness among the masses on the political message of the party and its leader Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Organized by its educational and research division, the workshop was attended by former local government members of the party.

Similar workshops will be held across the island, said UNP working committee member Krishan Theodore.

The main objective is how to take the party’s political message to the grassroots, how to deal with and understand the masses and how to build real human relations beyond elections, he said.

At yesterday’s event, chief operations officer of the UNP Shamal Senerath welcomed the participants, after which general secretary Palitha Range Bandara explained the president’s attempts to change the Sri Lankan political culture.

Dilanthe Withanage, a resource person, explained the timely need for holding such workshops.

Convener of Prabudda Lanka, Dr. Chaminda Malalasekara delivered a lecture on addressing the people and developing speechmaking skills.

A dialogue ensued in which Range Bandara, Achala Suranga Jagoda and the participants discussed arising issues.
