“We Sri Lankans are a nation that eats sausages fried on a pan on the top of a volcano,” minister Bandula Gunawardena told parliament today (23).

None of the successive governments managed an income to meet daily expenditure, he claimed.

Earnings are sufficient only to pay salaries and pensions of public sector workers, Samurdhi allowances and interests on loans only, he said.

Failure to repay loans will make rating agencies downgrade the country to incapacity, when international letters of credit will not be accepted even if the great king becomes Sri Lanka’s president, said Gunawardena.
