Hunters are poisoning wild animals at waterholes which they frequent in order to quench their thirst during the prevailing drought and sell their flesh in Kataragama, Yala and other areas, wildlife officers have received information.
Assistant director of Uva zone Upul Indrajith and Manoj Vidyaratne who is in charge of Yala Wildlife Park said agrichemicals are being used by the racketeers for this.
Wildlife officers are on duty throughout the day to nab those involved.
