Leader of the United National Party (UNP) Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday (22) told the party’s management committee to prepare to contest the next general election under the ‘elephant’ symbol.
Wickremesinghe summoned an emergency meeting of the MC after the result of the presidential election was announced.
He gave instructions to include five newcomers for each district’s nomination list.
Also, a review of the presidential election result was made at the MC meeting, where the disadvantage due to not contesting under the ‘elephant’ symbol was discussed.
