COPE is investigating 122 lecturers attached to Peradeniya University for not having reported for duty following training in foreign universities.

Peradeniya University has the highest number of lecturers who have violated their overseas training agreements after 2010, said chairman of the parliamentary committee, Prof. Ranjith Bandara.

COPE was told that more than Rs. 25 million has to be recovered from 63 lecturers for absconding.

Chairman of the University Grants Commission Prof. Sampath Amaratunga said steps are being taken to include stronger conditions in agreements as a preventive measure.
