A committee of inquiry has found no abnormality in the two recent fatalities from medicines allergies, said one of its members Prof. Chandima Jeewandara.

Considering cases in recent years and from other countries, two deaths is not any increase in incidence, he said.

Speaking to the media yesterday (10), he also said the committee inquired into six patients who had developed allergies to medicines and found four of them to be having a serious condition.

The National Medicines Regulatory Authority has decided to get a WHO laboratory test done for the antibiotic in question, Co-Amoxiclave For Inj – BP 1.2g, he said.

 

 

Expert committee report to health minister

 

The report by the committee of experts was handed over to the health minister on the previous day by its chairman Dr. Dedunu Dias.

Other committee members were also present on the occasion.
