University teachers say they will take justice minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe and Ada Derana channel to court over remarks defamatory of them.

A letter of demand is to be sent to both, seeking Rs. 1,000 million damages each, said the Federation of University Teachers' Association (FUTA).

Meanwhile, in a statement, the minister referred to remarks he had made to ‘Big Focus’ programme of Ada Derana TV on 01 August.

According to a special parliamentary committee on higher education a senior professor of a Sri Lankan university allocates five hours a week for teaching, whereas in UK, that time is as high as 35 hours.

As the chairman of that committee, he said, the committee had received submissions in this regard by professionals and experts.
