Nochchiyagama magistrate Nalaka Bandara Illangaratne has reprimanded police for failing to arrest wealthy businessman Nandika Viranjith Thambugala after he publicly threatened the OIC of Rajanganaya police with death.

The magistrate yesterday (26) released Thambugala on two sureties of Rs. 500,000 each, after he surrendered.

Anuradhapura ASP Amila Seneviratne and officers of Rajangana police submitted a B report into the incident that occurred during a musical show at Yaya 18.

As the court proceeding was on, the chairman of Aura Lanka group gave himself up to the court via a lawyer, which the magistrate questioned, and asked what special privileges he enjoyed to avoid arrest.

He also reprimanded the suspect, warning him of imprisonment if found to have threatened any police or state official in the future.

The next hearing has been fixed for 23 November.
