A weekend luxury tourist train will start operating between Mt. Lavinia and Kankesanthurai on 04 August, said transport minister Bandula Gunawardena.
It will leave Mt. Lavinia on Friday at 10.30 pm to reach Kankesanthurai at 6.00 am on Saturday.
The return journey begins at 10.30 pm on Sunday and ends from Colombo Fort at 6.00 am on Monday.
During the festival at Nallur Kovil in Jaffna, it will operate daily from 18 August, said the minister.
The train consists of super-luxury, fully air-conditioned compartments and restaurant cars.
