The government is summoning the committee on parliamentary affairs today (17) in a hurry to get approval tomorrow for a proposal to set up a select committee to interfere with election and judicial officials, alleged opposition leader Sajith Premadasa.
Its intention is to influence the Election Commission as well as the judiciary in court hearings into election-related cases in order to proceed with its political agenda, he said.
In a statement, he said both election and judicial officials are being indirectly told to follow the government’s agenda, or else face consequences by facing a PSC.
This nullifies the supremacy of the country’s 22 million people and their voting rights, he added.
Premadasa vowed to unite all parties in the opposition to defeat this government attempt aimed at protecting the interests of the SLPP MPs.
