A patient died at Panadura Base Hospital yesterday (13) following a suspected infection via a cannula inserted to him.
A management assistant at the Medicines Regulatory Authority, he had been admitted to a government hospital in Galle two weeks ago with a high temperature.
Later, he got transferred to Panadura Hospital, where doctors found him to be a heart patient too.
Expert committee probes Peradeniya Hospital death
Meanwhile, a five-member committee of specialist doctors has been tasked with investigating the death of a 21-year-old girl at Peradeniya Teaching Hospital.
Health minister Keheliya Rambukwella said preliminary investigations did not find the vaccines given to her caused the death.
According to him, 12 other patients given the same vaccine are being warded at the same hospital.
