The chairman of the Committee on Public Finance (COPF) Dr. Harsha de Silva, who is from the SJB, said violation of equity principles remains a primary concern in the domestic debt restructuring (DDR).

This has led to the opposition to decide on voting against the resolution on the DDR, he has tweeted following a meeting of the COPF.

He said COPF members stressed the importance of balanced burden-sharing among all creditors, not solely on superannuation funds, to uphold equity in the DDR.

The COPF passed the resolution with amendments binding the finance ministry to the proposed plan, ensuring adherence to the approved concept paper and addressing concerns about potential deviations.

The resolution will now proceed to parliament for a vote.

Upon approval, officials will present the plan to the public on July 04.

Superannuation funds will have 21 days until July 25 to review and agree or disagree with the proposed plan, he added.
