Workers are campaigning against the privatization of Sri Lanka’s first tea plantation started by Scotland’s James Taylor in 1867.
There is a plan to divide Loolecondera estate at Deltota in Kandy owned by the Janatha Estate Development Board.
When prospective buyers visited the place on June 25, workers launched a hunger strike demanding that the privatisation plan be abandoned.
They want a written assurance that the estate will not be privatized if they are to stop their agitation.
