Director general of archaeology Prof. Anura Manatunga has tendered his resignation to the ministry of culture, confirmed subject minister Vidura Wickramanayake.
Social media is full of speculation about his resignation that came just days after he was pulled up by president Ranil Wickremesinghe at a meeting.
“Are you trying to teach me history? Or do you want me to teach you?” Wickremesinghe asked him over a matter of an archaeological site.
The discussion on June 09 at the Presidential Secretariat was with Tamil politicians.
However, Prof. Manatunga said he stepped down over personal reasons.
