Colombo archbishop Malcolm cardinal Ranjith wants an immediate election held to allow the people an opportunity to express their opinion.

Addressing a function in Katana, he said the country would not be allowed to fall into a dictatorship through an introduction of laws to restrict freedom and the abuse of power.

He accused politicians of allying together to run society with lawlessness, and said they were not fit to rule the country.

Referring to the IMF loan facility, the cardinal said its aim of keeping the state’s wealth in the hands of a few while keeping the majority poor was happening now.
