The Galle Face Green in Colombo will be reserved for the public to spend leisure time and for special religious activity only, according to a cabinet decision.
From April 20, permission will not be granted for musical shows or political gatherings there.
The government said Rs. 6.6 million had to be spent to repair the damage caused to Galle Face Green during the 'Aragalaya' period.
The Ports Authority has taken over its development under a corporate social responsibility project, with an expenditure of around Rs. 220 million to date.
