JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake is attacking Central Bank governor Nandalal Weeerasinghe to show his preparedness to sabotage Sri Lanka’s talks with the IMF that begin in Washington in 48 hours’ time, said community affairs director general to the president Rajith Keerthi Tennakoon.
In a statement, Tennakoon said it is an opportunistic political use to level conspiracy allegations against negotiators sitting down for talks that decide Sri Lanka’s future.
Dissanayake has said that a decision taken by the CBSL governor had resulted in the country’s economy come to be ruled by the IMF’s agenda.
State minister of finance Shehan Semasinghe, together with Dr. Weeerasinghe and treasury secretary Mahinda Siriwardena, represents Sri Lanka at the 2023 Spring Meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund.
The meetings take place in Washington DC from April 10 to 16.
Semasinghe has tweeted, "Looking forward to representing Sri Lanka at the IMF World Bank 2023 Spring Meetings starting 10th April. Great opportunity to enhance cooperation with our international partners to ensure debt sustainability and to further the progress we have made towards economic recovery."
