The National Movement for a Radical Change is launching ‘Senehase Yatrawa’ on April 19 to coincide with the fourth anniversary of the Easter Sunday terror attacks.
The Movement that made its debut recently with ex-president Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga as its patron is on a campaign to defeat politics of hatred and bring love to society.
It is planning the event to start from five locations – Nallur Kovil in Jaffna, mosque at Sainthamaruthu, Madu Church in Mannar, Kataragama Maha Devale and Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy. On April 21, which incidentally marks the birth anniversary of the late Mangala Samaraweera, a pioneer in national reconciliation, ‘Senehase Yatrawa’ converges on Colombo, where a lighting of lamps for peace takes place.
A member of the board of conveners, Mahil Bandara, said all parties and groups, other than those supportive of the Rajapaksas and those who denied national reconciliation for the country, are invited to attend.
He said talks were underway to obtain the support of the parties including Samagi Jana Balawegaya,
Freedom People’s Council, 43 Brigade, Nawa Lanka Nidahas Pakshaya, Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna, Tamil National Alliance and the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress.
Meanwhile, a group of young activists of the Movement called on the chief prelates of the Malwatte and Asgiriya Chapters yesterday (04) and briefed them about the event.
