J. Sri Ranga was arrested yesterday (17) after he failed to appear before court in connection with a fatal road accident that occurred in 2011 when he was an MP.

Now president of Football Federation of Sri Lanka, he was taken into custody by a team from Kohuwala police at Colombo South Teaching Hospital where he was receiving treatment.

Vavuniya high court judge Mohamed Mihal issued a warrant for Ranga’s arrest in a case in which he stands accused of causing the death of his police bodyguard in the accident at Settikulam on March 30, 2011 and providing false information to cover it up.

Police informed the court that he has intimidated and threatened two witnesses to the case.
