Deputy leader of the UNP Akila Viraj Kariyawasam has described K.D. Lalkantha as a ‘progressive figure’ in the NPP over his rejection of strikes.
Kariyawasam was responding to a question raised by a journalist at a media briefing at Sirikotha today (16).
He was asked to comment on Lalkantha’s request not to strike work and inconvenience the public, when MPs from his party called for the opposite.
“He would have understood the consequences of the crime of striking work at a difficult time for the country. That could be why he has made such a statement,” said the UNP deputy leader.
