The health ministry has given no recommendation to purchase any cancer treatment drug at high prices, claimed minister Keheliya Rambukwella.

The matter of their prices will be discussed at a meeting on March 15, he told the media yesterday (13).

The final decision lies with a committee comprising the health secretary and representatives of the auditor general and the treasury, he said.

Rambukwella rejected reports in certain media that said the Apeksha Hospital in Maharagama was going to buy 43 varieties of medicines at very high prices.

He also said the Bureau of Foreign Employment has granted Rs. 100 million, although it has promised in principal to contribute five times that amount to buy the medicines.
