Incumbent chairman Nimal Punchihewa too, has applied for membership of a new Election Commission due to be formed shortly.
He said the purpose of his having applied for membership again is to complete the process of draft laws already formulated by the incumbents.
Also, several civil society organizations have urged him to be in the commission again, he said.
Its former chairman Mahinda Deshapriya, presently heading the Delimitation Commission, too has applied for membership in both commissions.
According to parliament sources, the nine independent commissions are most likely be formed next week.
