A 39-year-old woman in Ragama has been remanded for harassing and beating her teenage stepdaughter after a video showing the harassment has gone viral in social media.
The girl, aged 17, had been abused, threatened with death and beaten by the woman, who claimed she had been punishing her over her love affairs.
The father, who works in Korea, has seen the incidents via CCTV cameras installed in their house and released the footage to social media.
Ragama police intervened and got the girl hospitalized with minor injuries yesterday (10) and also arrested the woman.
Produced before the Welisara magistrate’s court, she was remanded until March 24.
