A Buddhist monk is among two persons arrested in connection with a T-56 rifle that has gone missing from a checkpoint near the Army camp in Panagoda, Homagama.

Ven. Malambe Seelaratana Thera and the other suspect were taken into custody by the CID yesterday (08).

The firearm, four magazines with ammunition and a bag had been stolen from a soldier guarding an Army housing complex on March 03.

Some of the ammunition were found later from a culvert around 100 metres away.

CCTV footage obtained from a nearby shop gave a lead to the culprits.

The suspects have been questioned and will be produced before courts today.
