The cabinet has decided to permit state institutions to open accounts and transact with private banks for the issuance of letters of credit to import medicines and other essentials.
Ministers who met this afternoon (01) arrived at the decision in view of the daylong strike called today, said cabinet spokesman Bandula Gunawardena.
This permission for ministries, departments and statutory boards is subject to approval by the Finance Ministry, he said.
