Former finance minister Ravi Karunanayake has thanked all those who stood firm alongside him, after he was released from both court cases in connection with the Central Bank (CBSL) bond sales.

Yesterday (28), the Court of Appeal ruled against a continuation of the cases against Karunanayake over alleged misappropriation of more than Rs. 50 billion of state funds at CBSL bond sales.

Appellate court judges Sobhitha Rajakaruna and Dhammika Ganepola issued a writ order to the attorney general against proceeding with the cases filed in the Colombo high court.

Following the court ruling, Karunanayake tweeted:

“Today was a very special day for me, my wife and the three daughters. Seven years of insults, pain and sufferings undergone by me and my family ended today as justice prevails. I thank all those who stood firm alongside me all this while.”
