President Ranil Wickremesinghe has offered Wimal Weerawansa a rope to cling onto with his power devolution talk, alleged JVP general secretary Tilvin Silva.
The president’s never-to-be-fulfilled promise about devolving powers to provincial councils has given that much-needed opportunity for Weerawansa, who had been in the political doldrums until then, he said in an interview with an internet channel.
Wickremesinghe will never fully implement the PC system, but will use it instead to create a dialogue in society in order to establish his power, said Silva.
The JVP secretary went on to say that his party was considering a new power devolution mechanism in place of the PC system.
He charged the government and other opponents of scheming to dissipate the people’s increasing attraction to the JVP-led Jathika Jana Balawegaya.
