Central Bank governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe has said that the economy would not have been in crisis had it been handled by knowledgeable persons.

He also believed the people would understand the difficult and unpopular decisions being taken for the economy to come out of its present plight.

Dr. Weerasinghe was speaking at the centenary celebrations of his alma mater, Rahula College in Matara, yesterday (19).

He said a country develops when it is in good and capable hands, without which there would be no success.

The CBSL governor also said, “When difficult decisions are taken, some may face hardships. Those hardships will cause the decision makers to be blamed. Whatever the blames are, if the decisions are correct, the suitable and knowledgeable persons should have the ability and the temperament to stand firm and make them.”
