The prevailing economic crisis has resulted in a loss of around 1.2 jobs in the construction industry.

This came to light at a recent meeting president Ranil Wickremesinghe had with the industry’s professionals.

Participants noted that many persons involved in road, house and other constructions as well as suppliers of raw materials have lost their jobs.

Highways minister Bandula Gunawardena said outstanding payments to major and minor constructors for road constructions alone amounted to more than 100 billion.

President Wickremesinghe stressed the importance of paying immediate attention to this situation in the industry.
