The Football House at Reid Avenue in Colombo is to remain closed today (26) as the Sports Ministry has yet to declare its stand with regard to the expiry of the office of Football Sri Lanka (FSL).

With its closure, payment of salaries gets delayed to the 82-member staff at the local football governing body, according to FSL president Jaswar Umar.

Their payday is the 25th of every month.

Umar also said the Sports Ministry should take responsibility for all the arising issues as a result of this situation.

The Ministry has suddenly withdrawn a deadline it had given to all sports governing bodies to conclude holding their 2022 elections of office-bearers by 31 October.

Director general of sports Amal Edirisuriya has told Lankadeepa they had submitted two recommendations to minister Roshan Ranasinghe.

One is to hand over FSL’s administration temporarily to a competent authority until an election is held and to appoint a committee in the interim.

Following an extraordinary meeting of FSL on September 22, it was announced the election of office-bearers will take place on October 03.
