It is reported that the President has decided to appoint senior journalist Sudewa Hettiarachchi as the Director General of the Presidential Media Division.

Senior journalist Mohan Samaranayake, who served as the Director General of the Presidential Media Division, was recently appointed as the Director General of the Government Information Department by the President.

It is reported that alumni from Ananda College, Colombo, who have close connections to the President, have requested him to appoint Sudewa Hettiarachchi or Sisira Paranathanthri who are also old boys of Ananda College, to the post of Director General of the Presidential Media Division.

Meanwhile, a senior official in the Presidential Secretariat said that the President has decided to appoint Sudewa Hettiarachchi and that the latter has already been informed in this regard. However, Hettiarachchi has requested for a few days to inform his decision to the President.

Sudewa Hettiarachchi has requested for some time so that he could inform the relevant authorities of the media institution where he currently serves at and relieve himself of his duties, the official added.

Sudewa Hettiarachchi currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the EBC Broadcasting Network which includes Swarnavahini. He also serves as a leading official of the Sri Lanka-China Journalists' Forum.
