An investigation report is being finalized for its submission to courts in connection with the biggest mass grave found in Sri Lanka.

Sorting of the skeletal remains and other material evidence gathered from the site at the CWE premises in Mannar took place for five days last week in the presence of a magistrate.

Lawyer S. Niranjan, who appears for victims of enforced disappearances, said a report by forensic archaeologist Prof. Raj Somadeva is due in courts tomorrow (16).

Reportedly, remains belonging to 367 persons, including 28 children, were retrieved from the site first found in 2018.

Tests into samples sent to Beta Analytics at Miami, USA pointed that they belonged to the period between 1404 and 1635.

But, Somadeva rejected the claim, and fresh determinations began in July 2019.Some of the skeletal parts had deep cuts and also indications were that they had been bound together.
