Director General of the Department of Census and Statistics Anoja Seneviratne said that all arrangements have been made to collect the information of individuals and houses according to the Population and Housing Census of 2024.
The people had the opportunity to provide information related to this Census by using the internet and that ended at midnight yesterday (07).
Accordingly, all arrangements have been made to add information in the field from yesterday.
According to the provisions of the Census Ordinance, all citizens are bound to provide information.
Census officers who receive information are bound to protect the confidentiality of the information.
8.3 million Household units have been labelled in the initial phase of the Population and Housing Census. Of these, 8.3 million Households, or 80.7% are identified as Housing units.
According to the last Population and Housing Census conducted 12 years ago, in 2012, it is an increase of about 12%.
She said that the information obtained from Population and Housing Census is essential to study the population structure of a country.
Besides, policymakers can use this information to design policies.
