Vijitha Herath, the cabinet spokesman of the new government, has refrained from commenting on their power devolution policy when he met journalists for the first time.
“We will commence that task after forming the new government. We will then make the approach required,” he said.
Anura Kumara Dissanayake contested the presidential polls with a promise not to grant police and land powers to provincial councils.
Questioned over the stand with regard to the Tamil issue and the 13th amendment, Herath said the NPP policy manifesto proposed solutions for their resolution.
Also, he maintained that political prisoners should be freed, adding that possibility would be looked into within the existing legal framework.
