The Election Commission will reconsider issuing presidential election results to Media institutions that fail to adhere to the specified criteria, said its chairman R.M.A.L. Ratnayake.
Also, such media institutions could face legal action and also exclusion from the commission’s media briefings, an information curb and the commission will even not respond to their telephone inquiries, said Ratnayake at a seminar in Colombo.
He said the heads of five errant media institutions were already summoned and issued instructions on how to do their reporting, he said.
The commission keeps a close watch on the media’s activities in relation to reporting the presidential election, he added.
