At an event held yesterday (07) in Colombo, attended by President Ranil Wickremasinghe, former Cabinet Minister Faizer Mustapha made an impassioned call for accountability

, urging that former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa be held responsible under the law for the forceful cremation of Muslims during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In his address, Faizer Mustapha expressed gratitude to President Wickremasinghe for his recent public apology to the Muslim community. The President’s acknowledgment of the community's immense suffering and pain was received as a significant and necessary gesture towards healing and reconciliation.

However, Faizer Mustapha did not hesitate to take a firm stance against the actions of the former president. He unequivocally condemned Gotabaya Rajapaksa's administration for what he termed a "racist" policy of mandatory cremations, a policy that violated religious rights and deeply traumatized the Muslim community.

"Gotabaya Rajapaksa must be held accountable in accordance with the law," Faizer Mustapha asserted, reaffirming his commitment to justice for the Muslim community. He further described Rajapaksa’s actions as rooted in racial and religious prejudice, actions that, according to Mustapha, directly undermined the principles of equality and humanity.

Throughout his political career, Faizer Mustapha has consistently stood as a vocal advocate for the Muslim community, championing their rights at every critical juncture. His remarks yesterday were a continuation of his longstanding dedication to ensuring justice, equality, and respect for religious freedoms in Sri Lanka.

This call for accountability marks a crucial moment in Sri Lanka's journey towards justice and reconciliation, with Mustapha positioning himself as a key voice in this movement.
