Two new chairmen are set to be appointed to head the Co-operative Wholesale Establishment (CWE) and Lanka Sathosa from Monday (28), Trade Ministry sources said.

Accordingly, Attorney-at-Law Venura Gunawardena, who served as the Additional Commissioner General of Prisons at the Prison Headquarters, will be appointed as the Chairman of the CWE.

Former Director of the Civil Defense Department, Rear Admiral Ananda Peiris, will be appointed as the Chairman of Lanka Sathosa.

They will be appointed to replace Nushad Perera, who served as chairman of both institutions.

Nushad Perera has already been replaced as the Chairman of the CWE.

Trade Ministry sources said that the reason for his removal was due to the failure of the CWE to achieve the targets set by the government.

Meanwhile, Ministry sources added that Nushad Perera has also been informed to resign from Lanka Sathosa.

Trade Ministry Secretary Bhadrani Jayawardena will oversee the CWE until the new chairman is appointed.
