The cold war between minister Prasanna Ranatunga and Namal Rajapaksa has ended following a hush-hush meeting between the two more than a week ago.

Prasanna has been pro-Ranil and wants the SLPP to support him at the next presidential election. However, Namal’s faction wants a candidate of their own.

According to party sources, Prasanna attended the Pirith chanting at the SLPP office. There, he had closed-door talks with Basil Rajapaksa for almost two hours.

Prasanna spoke with Mahinda and Gotabaya too. It now remains to be seen what the outcome is – if he will remain with Ranil or change track and be back with the Rajapaksas.

Another hint of the end of their cold war is that Namal has told state minister Indika Anuruddha to work with Prasanna Aiya in Gampaha.

There have been differences between Prasanna and Indika, with the latter asking for the district leadership. Indika was accused of appointing an organizer for Negombo without consulting Prasanna and that he was involved in the Aragalaya. Indika  has apologized to Prasanna over it.
