Sri Lanka is gearing up to reopen schools from Grade 2-13 from January 11, excluding ones in the Western Province and in isolated areas.

Schools in the Western Province except those in isolated areas will be reopened on January 25 only for students sitting for the GCE Ordinary Level Examination.

Secretary to the Ministry of Education, Prof. Kapila Perera said that it was a huge challenge before the government to reopen schools in the face of the surging pandemic.

He noted that a set of guidelines had been issued on how the principals, teachers, students and parents should conduct their activities and more information can be obtained via the Education Ministry's website: www.moe.gov.lk

The Ministry of Education, with the assistance of school health advisory committees and parents, will monitor the activities of principals at the provincial, zonal and divisional levels on the 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th of this month.
