United National Party (UNP) General Secretary Palitha Range Bandara scoffing rumours yesterday (30) said he was still the General Secretary of the UNP.

Addressing a press conference in response to speculation that he was to be removed from his role, Range Bandara claimed that a systematic misinformation campaign was being carried out against him.

“A group of individuals have spread false stories, suggesting that I am leaving the UNP in exchange for an MP position in a future Parliament and financial benefits.

Several mainstream newspapers have also reported on this. I challenge these individuals to come forward and present their allegations against me within a week. In due course, I will give a detailed response to these accusations,” he stated.

The UNP General Secretary also mentioned that both he and his family have been targeted by various administrations over the years.

“I urge those in power not to target my children in their vendettas, exposing how ruthless they can be,” he said.

Range Bandara emphasised that even if he resigns from his post, or if President Ranil Wickremesinghe, who also serves as the leader of the UNP, removes him from his position, he will remain a loyal member of the party.
