Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi (ITAK) Leader MP Sivagnanam Shritharan on 23 August pledged his support for the common presidential candidate, P. Ariyanethran.
Addressing the media in his office in Kilinochchi, Shritharan said it was his decision.
He said ITAK, as a party, did not support Ariyanethran.
Shritharan had earlier met Ariyanethran, and several other ITAK senior members were also present during the meeting.
“I was elected by Tamils. I support Ariyanethran because I think this is what people would like me to do. I will not change my decision because of the party. My decision is not detrimental to the party’s political future,” he said.
