Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa has pledged to introduce a new national policy on foreign employment.

Noting various shortcomings in the field, he said a corrupt-free person would be appointed as the subject minister and the inherent weaknesses, corruption and fraud would be eliminated.

Premadasa was speaking at a meeting with licensed foreign employment agents.

He charged that the five per cent CESS imposed on expatriate domestic workers is being misused, by event management companies.

That income should otherwise have been used for the welfare of the workers and their families and foreign employment agencies.

That fraud should be investigated, he added.
