Teachers and students of a school in Kilinochchi continue to experience police harassment over a matter of the shape of a stall at the inter-house sports meet held five months ago.

Konavil Tamil Central College had a map of Sri Lanka showing where Tamils live in one of the houses at the event on 14 March.

After pictures of it were circulated in social media, educational authorities in the north met the teaching staff and students and prepared a report.

A week later, the CTID recorded statements from the teachers, and summoned the principal for questioning to its Paranthan unit as well.

After Joseph Stalin of the Ceylon Teachers Union raised the matter, police temporarily halted looking into the matter.

But, on the 01st of August, several teachers were told to report to the CTID’s Paranthan unit a week later.

Stalin intervened again, after which police told the school that no statements would be recorded.

Yet again, early on 13 August, the CTID went to the school and ordered the vice principal and three teachers to be at their office in the morning.

On the next day, the school’s physical training instructor was summoned to the CTID.

Teachers of the school question if the Sinhalese cannot even tolerate an artistic creation by Tamil schoolchildren.
