Party leader Mahinda Rajapaksa will be deciding the presidential candidate of the SLPP, said its national convener Rohitha Abeygunawardena.
Incumbent Ranil Wickremesinghe is yet to declare if he is contesting either, the MP told the media in Kalutara.

A presidential candidate to be supported by the SLPP should be able to take forward and safeguard the policies of the party, says its national organizer Namal Rajapaksa.
He stresses that his party would have nothing to do with persons wanting their support at elections only as well as the party breakaway, so-called independents.
Party politicians supporting the president who say they cannot win together with the SLPP are free to leave the party, he adds.
Party sources say Dhammika Perera is their likely candidate.
Majority supports Ranil
Meanwhile, MP Channa Jayasumana of ‘Sarvajana Balaya’ claims a majority of SLPP MPs are at talks to support Wickremesinghe.
