The Constitutional Council today (18) refused to grant a service extension to attorney general Sanjay Rajaratnam.
President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s recommendation to extend the AG’s term until 31 December has been criticised by many.
The CC met at the parliamentary complex with speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, after failing to take a decision on two previous meetings.
Rajaratnam completes his term on 26 June.
